Being obese puts unnecessary strain on the heart, making the heart pump faster because of the increased amount of body fat. As a result this can cause high blood pressure. Likewise it has been proven that being obese greatly increases your chances of getting type 2 diabetes. It is also a contributing factor to some people getting cancer. Why would anyone let themselves get like that? Obesity can cause diseases but is not a disease itself. It can harm the body and stop it from properly working, like a disease, but it can be cured unlike some diseases. Anyone who is obese can return to a healthy lifestyle, with enough determination, so why are people overweight? Accordingly, one of the worst penalties obesity causes are physical restrictions. Even the simplest things such as taking a shower can be made difficult. However it can also prevent movement on the inside of the body. As the excess fat accumulates, it puts pressure on the major organs and cause difficulties with things that most people don’t usually have problems with, such as breathing. Out of all the diseases and problems in the world, obesity, the easiest to cure problem, was declared a worldwide epidemic by WHO in 2011. A global epidemic? Such an easy problem to solve in comparison to diseases such as HIV. Earlier it was seen as a disease for richer countries, but has been recognised globally with at least 14% of every countries population being overweight. There is a need to make the public aware about this increasing problem, outdoor sports and activities should be encouraged by both schools and parents to tackle the rising cases of childhood obesity. In rare cases, obesity can be caused by rare medical conditions such as crushing’s syndrome which causes the over production of certain steroid hormones. Weight gain can also be caused by certain medicines such as anti-depressants, and can be side effects from taking the combined birth control pill and quitting smoking.
